About Us

Some bookshops stock books. Broad Street Books does something rarer: it connects readers to exactly the book they didn't know they needed. Owner Sue-Ni has spent years building not just a collection but a conversation, drawing on deep local knowledge of Sussex County and an even deeper knowledge of literature across every genre. Customers regularly drive an hour or more to shop here, and they'll tell you the trip is worth every mile.

The shop lives in a gorgeous historic building at the corner of Mill Street in Branchville, a space with real architectural charm that makes browsing feel like an event rather than an errand. The shelves are thoughtfully organized, the selection is genuinely curated, and the leather-bound titles that catch your eye in the corner are exactly as beautiful as they look. Prices are fair, the atmosphere is unhurried, and you will almost certainly leave with more books than you planned to buy.

What We Offer

Broad Street Books carries a wide-ranging selection of new books spanning fiction, nonfiction, local history, children's literature, and collectible leather-bound editions that make exceptional gifts. Sue-Ni's personal recommendations are one of the shop's most valued offerings: describe a mood, a genre, or the last book you loved, and she will point you somewhere surprising and right.

The shop also serves as a community gathering point for readers across northern New Jersey, with a browsing experience that rewards slow, curious visits. Whether you're searching for a specific title or simply want to wander until something calls to you, the layout and curation make discovery easy. Gift wrapping, local author titles, and a selection of regional interest books round out an inventory that punches well above the shop's intimate square footage.

"This place is just fantastic. Sue- Ni has such a rich history of local knowledge and lure. She also has a deep knowledge of books and can point you in any direction you’re looking to go. This shop is a gem. Authentic and beautiful without pitching to social media or being “insta ready.” The building is beautiful. It’s well organized. Can’t recommend highly enough."

"Did I drive an hour to get there? Yes! I met the owner of the shop and she was lovely, she helped me find some books for me, with decent prices might I add! While the place is small, it makes up for its tight fit with a expanding, wide variety of selections. Definitely recommend going to there, but when you have time to search each nook and cranny because on my way out I say HG Wells, "The Invisible man" but I digress. My niece will love the Curious George, Paddington, and Winnie the Pooh books I got her!"

"Outstanding independent book seller!! The building is simply gorgeous, so much charm. Everything is very well organized and there are so many good books to choose from. The selection of leather bound books is amazing, they're located just to the left as soon as you walk in the door. I went with 3 of my girlfriends on Saturday April 30, which was Independent Book Sellers day. We all walked away with an armload of books. The owner took some time to chat with us, she was super friendly and really knows her books. This is a MUST STOP for any book lover, no matter how far away you are... this is worth the drive. All the books I looked at were in really good condition. Stop by and support this local business!"
